About Aqua Flies:

Aqua Flies is a company committed to tying the finest flies on earth. We began at our roots with steelhead flies, but now we are expanding.  Only the highest quality fly tying materials are used: AquaTalon hooks, Whiting Farms feathers, our brand of shanks and Intruder Eyes. Each fly is hand tied by the most experienced commercial fly tiers in the business and passes through stringent quality inspection.

The people behind Aqua Flies are dedicated fly tiers and fly fishermen who understand how to utilize top-notch materials, correct proportions, and precise tying methods to produce a superior product. We know the difference between a fly that will catch fish and one that just looks good at the vice. We have a history and depth of experience that enables us to combine proven tradition with unequaled innovation.

We take pride in our products and we are eager to share them with you.

Project Brief:

The owner of Aqua Flies has been taking orders from retailers and other pro accounts through old school spreadsheet forms for years. In order to remove himself from this, he wanted a website specific to dealers that was removed from his already existing WordPress website. Having worked on the old website previously, I had a good idea of the branding scheme and was ready to get to designing. This website has a few critical design features that were discussed during the planning part of the design process:

1. There are different classes of users of the website with different price discounts based on the user tags given to the user and this price is dynamically revealed.

2. Users without an account are not able to see prices of items, and the site does not allow for accounts to be created without a request.

3. Payment is not collected on the site due to the desire for this to be a simple order creation site, with payment being manually collected when items come into stock.

Page Design and Functionality:

The main design problem for this site was to create pages that only display key information like pricing and cart information when the user has an account created and is logged in. Since Shopify does not offer this natively, I altered the source code in order to achieve this. Below I’ve attached an example of a collection page and a product page when a user is logged in (right), and when they are not (left).

Since the completion of this site, it has resulted in an a direct increase in sales, and a better user experience for Aqua Flies customers. It was a great chance to utilize my skills as a web designer, and learn more ways to provide the best experience for users.
